Extracting hair follicles from individuals with curly hair, especially those of African descent, is quite difficult with both FUT and particularly FUE techniques. However, in experienced hands, approximately 2500-3000 grafts can be extracted in a single session from curly hair. The challenge lies in the fact that the curly hair continues to curl beneath the skin, and extracting the curled root, which is located under the skin and is not visible, using a straight cutting punch. The most important point here is the depth of the hair follicles, which the surgeon cannot determine before starting the operation. If the hair structure has deep, long roots that continue to curl beneath the skin, extracting the follicle without damaging it becomes even more difficult. Extracting roots closer to the surface is easier and more efficient.
